MARYANN RING SPENCER

Historical Fiction • Religious Thrillers • Hopeful Science Fiction
Stories of resilience, revelation, and what it means to truly grow up.

Maryann Ring Spencer is a Maltese author and former human-resources leader with a qualification from the University of Leicester. For over two decades she guided global teams through change — experience that now quietly shapes the moral depth and human transitions in her novels.

A lifelong lover of literature, she recited Romeo and Juliet from memory as a schoolgirl, wrote for the student newspaper, and earned a Victoria College of Music accreditation in pianoforte. Management filled her days, but stories, poems, and songs were always written in stolen moments.

Curious and always eager to learn, she has taken short courses in physical geology and historical geology purely as a hobby — a passion for the Earth’s ancient stories that echoes through her writing.

Today she writes where history, faith, and the future meet the sea: forgotten gospels in ancient catacombs, conspiracies across centuries, and a living planet ready to heal us if we listen. Her historical novel Villa Sans Souci was published in 2024. Her second novel, the hopeful science-fiction epic MER: An Ancient Power Has Awakened (88,000 words), is currently on submission.

Maryann is a devoted follower of the Earthshot Prize and Sir David Attenborough’s work, and a daily reader of ScienceDaily and Discovery. When not writing, she sails the Maltese coastlines — a cherished hobby that keeps her connected to the living ocean she believes has its own patient, ancient soul.

The First Ideas

Everything begins with only an idea, and from there, creativity takes off. I used that as my starting point for the historical fiction book 'Villa Sans Souci.' An inspiration that inspired the creation of fantastic scenes and their documentation. I want to stress the importance of not waiting until you are an expert in everything. If you're willing to put your thoughts and knowledge down on paper, simply do it! Yes, you receive criticism and witness your project being derided by some, but there are also those who help you see the light, bring out the best in your ideas, and direct you towards your goals. I experienced that, and I felt that way. I am grateful to the excellent editors I encountered while working on my project who paved the road for me to publish the work I had always envisioned.
